Track and Field Meet Procedures/Information
Track season normally includes six regular meets, and a championship meet Finals.
Those who qualify at season end qualifying League Meet may
go on to participate in the IEC Meet.
NVGB usually host two to three regular season
meets at home with the remaining meets at another track venue. The Calendar will
indicate which meets are hosted and which are away. When
we host the meet, we will need at least 30 volunteer to
efficiently run the meet in a timely manner. We will continuously have
sign up sheets available at practice for parents to sign up to help in various
areas of the meet. We need your help at these meets.
The more volunteers helping with the meet will make it easier for everyone. Everyone will go home happy and at a reasonable time.
All meets start at 8:30 a.m. with the 3,000 meter run, Gremlin boys and girls
long jump, Bantam girls’ high jump, and Midget boys and girls shot put.
Each of these events occurs at the same time. If you are participating
in one of these events, you should plan to be at the meet one half hour or so
before the meet starts. If the events you are participating in are not held until
later in the day, you should check the approximate starting times for each event
as the order of events times are approximate. Some meet run faster than others
depending on the number of teams participating and the number of athletes per
team. However you should plan on being at least one half hour
early for all events during the day.
Upon arrival at a meet, see your coach for
any instructions, get signed in, and begin warm ups on the practice field, etc. Your
coach will notify you of the events your child will participate in for that meet. The maximum
number of events allowed by the Valley Conference at any meet is four. Gremlins
are allowed to compete in a maximum of 3
events.
During the day, running and field events take place simultaneously.
Running events take precedence over field events. The athlete must first check
in at the field event. After the second call for a running event, check out with
the field event judge and go immediately to the staging area for the
running event. The athlete then should return to the field event immediately after finishing their race.
You have a maximum of 5 minutes to return to complete your field event.
Athletes are free to leave after their last event,
however, please check with your coach to see if you may be needed
for a relay. Other athletes may need your help to complete
their events. Parents also please verify whether you have volunteered for clean-up or tear down at the end of the meet.
1. It is very important to prepare your children for practices and track meets; proper rest, food, clothing and conditioning are essential to insure a healthy athlete. Try to avoid milk products and heavy meals two to three hours before practice or competition. A diet high in carbohydrates will provide extra energy (Such as potatoes, pastas, breads and fruits).
2. Each parent should provide their child the following for each meet:
water and ice
towel, beach chair or blanket
food or money
sweats, hat or visor
Spikes and running shoes
uniform (not to be worn to practice)
3. If for some reason, you have left your child, please make arrangements
to pick up your children from the meet on time. Children are not permitted
to walk home after practice or a meet.
4. Please don't leave your child unattended at track meets. If you must
leave, please make arrangements with an adult to be responsible for your
child.
Conduct
A parent, spectator, coach, or another athlete is never allowed to pace
an athlete by running, or taking a position along the track
in attempts of coaching or assisting the athlete. The
athlete will be disqualified for any such act. Any times given
to an athlete will only be done so by the Head Timer at the finish line
during the race.
The Valley Youth Conference major goal is to present youth track competition in a wholesome and competitive environment. The personal conduct of parents, spectators, officials, coaches, and participants must, at all times, be respectful. Any physical and verbal abuse will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Adults or athletes with unacceptable behavior will be banned from the meet by the Meet Director. All adults and athletes are ask to refrain from all profanity or unacceptable conversation. The stress of competition often brings excitement but is not excuse for bad behavior. Let's have fun and remember that these competitions are for the children.
